Charge: Colo. woman faked PTSD to duck jury duty

(AP) ? Susan Cole of Denver stood out in a jury pool last summer, with mismatched socks and shoes, and her hair in curlers.

District Judge Anne Mansfield dismissed the cosmetologist and author from jury duty after Cole said she "broke out of domestic violence in the military" and had post-traumatic stress disorder.

But when Cole told a radio show months later that she went to court disheveled to appear mentally ill, the judge was listening.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/GG9Y3h ) that prosecutors charged Cole on Wednesday with perjury and attempting to influence a public servant.

An arrest affidavit says Cole felt emotionally drained and unprepared to serve on a jury after wrongly believing her cousin was in a fatal accident. However, investigators say Cole couldn't prove she was diagnosed with PTSD.

Famous rock climber to share stories in Orono ? Outdoors ...

Renowned rock climber Beth Rodden will travel to Maine to share a film and tell stories over dinner at the University of Maine in Orono. The event, 6-9 p.m. April 13, will benefit the new Bangor Y Outdoor Adventure Club. Ticket prices and the exact location will be announced soon on her Facebook page. Find it by visiting Facebook and searching for ?Dinner and a Movie with Beth Rodden.?

?[Rodden] is about as well known as you can get in the climbing community,? said Jeremy Robichaud, leader of the outdoor club?s rock climbing program. ?There are the bigtime legends who almost everyone has heard about ? like you may have heard of Lynn Hill. But Beth is right up there, maybe just a minor notch below that ? She broke a lot of standards for females as far as climbing difficulty. If she?s not the queen, she?s the princess.?

Established by the Bangor Y and University of Maine in February, the outdoor club will provide low-cost outdoor recreation training and trips to area residents. The current programs, rock climbing and paddling, have already proved to be popular programs and in high demand in the community. In fact, the club is working to form a third rock climbing group to satisfy a growing waiting list.

?We run in the gamut ? we have kids as young as 11 and folks that are senior citizens,? Robichaud said of the rock climbing program. ?The median age is 36. We have total greenhorns, who have never seen a climbing rope to a one particular guy who has been climbing for 30 years and moved up to Maine.?

All proceeds from the upcoming event with Rodden will go toward purchasing club equipment and travel expenses for the paddling and climbing tracks, as well as other programs, such as mountain biking, that club organizers hope to add in the near future.

Rodden, now 31, made climbing history in 1998, when she became the youngest woman to climb a 5.14a grade route, ?To Bolt or Not to Be? in Oregon, the first of its grade established in the United States. Since then, she has completed numerous 5.13 and 5.14 ascents.

Rock climbing grades accurately describe the degree of difficulty and danger for specific routes, although the grading system can be confusing and differs from country to country. In the US, climbs are rated from 5.1 to 5.15a, with 5.1 being the easiest. Difficulty also increases from ?a? to ?d.?

She was a part of the first all-women team to ascend Tsaranro Massif in Madagascar. She was also the first woman to free climb two El Capitan routes in Yosemite Valley. And just four years ago, she redpointed the first ascent of Meltdown in Yosemite Valley (5.14c), the hardest traditional route led or established by a woman as of 2008.

On March 14, Rodden called from her home in the California Bay Area for a phone interview.

Sarnacki: In the climbing world, what would you say you?re best known for?

Rodden: I?m probably best known for crack climbing, I would say ? and climbing in Yosemite.

S: How did you first started climbing?

R: I was 13 or 14 when I started climbing. I just went to a climbing gym one day actually, and I was hooked. So I started doing competitions a couple months after that and I just got completely hooked on the sport. (She was living in Sacramento, Calif. at the time, and the gym she?s referring to is The Rocknasium in Davis, Calif.)

S: What are you doing today in your career?

R: I?m still climbing a ton, traveling a lot, working with my sponsors on product development and doing clinics and stuff for them ? pretty much the same old, same old, which is kind of awesome.

S: Have you ever visited Maine before?

R: Yes, but not for a really long time ? probably like 10 or 15 years. I was visiting friends who lived in Portland. (She has never climbed in Maine and hopes to check out some local routes after the event.)

S: So far, what has been the most meaningful route for you?

R: The nose of El Cap is probably one of the most meaningful, I?d say. It was first free climbed by Lynn Hill (in 1994), who is kind of a legend in climbing. She climbed it the year I started climbing, so it was always this kind of idealistic accomplishment that I?d love to try some day. Finally, I did it, about 10 years later (2005). It was great.

S: Do you have any advice for people who are looking to become better climbers and try more challenging routes? What has always helped you be successful?

R: Probably a few things. Honestly, one is just climbing as much as you can. I know it sounds kind of obvious, but the more you climb, the more you learn. Also, surround yourself with people you can always learn from. When I was a kid, I?d always climb with the owners of the gym and adults ? Ask a ton of questions, especially when you go outside and there?s a lot more logistics involved. I still do that when I go climbing with people. That?s probably my biggest piece of advice ? And obviously, as with anything, it?s good to be able to work on your weaknesses. I personally think the gym is a great place to improve. It doesn?t directly correspond with outdoor climbing, but it?s a good, convenient place to learn.

S: As an athlete, what is the most appealing aspect of your sport? What do you look forward to most?

R: I think I look forward to spending time with friends in a new place, honestly. That?s one of the best things about climbing ? you get to travel a lot with your friends to pretty cool places and do something that you all really like to do.

S: Do you have any advice specific to women who are looking to get into climbing or become better climbers?

R: I think it?s a great sport for women to do because I think there?s a big misconception that it?s all about arm strength, but I?d say it?s equally about technique and balance, which I think women are inherently better at. And I also think it?s a great way to go do something with your girlfriends. I go climbing all the time with a group of ladies and it?s a really fun way to interact. It may seem like a really macho sport, but a lot of women out there are doing stuff right alongside the men.

S: A less serious question: For the event, do you have any favorite food you hope will be served for dinner?

R: I don?t even know what?s being offered. I love food. I dunno, maybe some seasonal Maine things. That would be awesome. I love to cook, but I wouldn?t say I?m very good at it.

S: I noticed your blog ( blog.bethrodden.com) is about cooking and climbing. When and why did you start that up?

R: I started that about a year ago. I think I had a few friends that had blogs about food and their kids and other friends of mine that had blogs about their climbing, so I thought it would be a cool thing to do, and I definitely enjoy writing. I find it a big challenge for myself and I really like that. I?m trying to learn how to become a better writer.

S: For these types of events, when you tell people your stories and show your film, do you consider yourself to be a very talkative person?

R: I think I?m inherently kind of a shy person, but I do really good with questions. I really like sharing my experiences because I know when I first started climbing, and still to this day I go to as many slideshows as I can. I am really inspired by people?s travels and their stories.

Sponsors for the Orono event with Rodden are Cadillac Mountain Sports, Acadia Mountain Guides, Alpenglow, NH Bragg and Thrive Climbing team.

Katy Perry really wants to hook up with Rihanna, on a song at least. The two have teased fans for quite some time about getting together and making a track to please both the Katy Cats and the Rihanna Navy.

When MTV News sat down with Katy during "MTV First: Katy Perry" — airing Wednesday (March 21) at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a 30-minute chat on MTV.com — the singer opened up about the pressure she feels to make the collaboration happen.

"I've always wanted to and she's always wanted to and that's very genuine," she explained. "We're not just shooting the sh--. We're not, like, just kind of beating around the bush. But really we want to."

Here is the catch. "It's just that I think it's gotten to such a head that if we do something that's not the greatest, it's going to be so anticlimactic," she said. "So we've already thought about it."

Perry then referred to a certain Beyoncé/Shakira duet from back in the day. "There was one reference that I made along the way thinking about, like, the vibe of Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox from the Eurythmics, 'Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves,' " she explained. "I saw that video the other day, and it's full 1980s something, [it's] prime. But it was just, like, the message was so nice. I love it and no offense, 'cause I love the song 'Beautiful Liar' by Shakira and Beyoncé, but I want to do something a little bit more brave."

Katy, however, does love the sexiness of the "Beautiful Liar" video, which features the girls scantily clad and rolling around with one another. "That's sexy as a hell," she said. "I mean, Beyoncé and Shakira — forget about it."

The "MTV First" will include the premiere of Perry's new video for "Part of Me." The singer will also talk all about her new projects, including Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, during a 30-minute interview with MTV News' James Montgomery on MTV.com.

Don't miss "MTV First: Katy Perry" tonight, when the pop star will debut her long-awaited video for "Part of Me" at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. Then head over to MTV.com for an exclusive 30-minute interview with Katy herself!

94% The Secret World of Arrietty

All Critics (115) | Top Critics (25) | Fresh (108) | Rotten (7) | DVD (1)

The Secret World of Arrietty is a marvelously captivating animated feature about very tiny people and the full-scale world they inhabit.

Yonebayashi gives Arrietty an excellent sense of balance, with the adventure aspects of the story, which feel legitimately dangerous providing well-paced contrast the film's more placid moments.

It's an enjoyable and attractive-looking film, but a little of that "Speed Racer" energy wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

The visual details are inventive, and the animation - particularly the colors - is lovely.

"The Secret World of Arrietty'' is a feast for the eyes that will engage the entire family.

The Secret World of Arrietty is sweet fun, an astute match of exquisite style and small content.

It certainly belongs in the second rank of Ghibli fantasies. But give it a chance.

Most will be caught up in its beautiful spell, immersed in great storytelling at its finest.

The soft-focus animation has an impressionistic quality, as if a gentle breeze had wafted across a Monet canvas.

This smart, winsome fairy tale is not quite Hiyao Miyazaki, but it still might be the best animated film that (some few) will see all year.

Another Studio Ghibli wonder, as heartbreaking for its devotion to craft, artistry and intelligent storytelling (for viewers of all ages) as for its themes of inevitable exile and impossible love.

There's a gentle movie from Japan that's going to seem familiar to a lot of fans of the series of books about 'The Borrowers.'

...yet another jewel in the crown of Studio Ghibli.

...creates a sense of wide-eyed wonder and discovery as we experience the awe-inspiring mysteries of an ordinary house as seen from the four-inch borrower's point of view.

The animation, a gorgeous blend of bewitching watercolored backgrounds and poignantly rendered characters, is, as ever, beyond reproach.

What is most effective is the way the sense of peaceful shelter and retreat in the country setting contrasts with the precariousness of the situations faced by Shawn and Arrietty.

It's hard to imagine this scenario playing out with more delicacy and care than animator-turned-director Yonebayashi Hiromasa brings to bear.

Arrietty has an elegiac mood, like a more wan and sedate Toy Story.

Gently enchanting, an extraordinary adventure

There may not be a frenzy of action and fast cuts but each scene has meticulous details about how the borrowers live, how they make use of the things in their environment to survive.

Tiny people who live in the walls of a rural home are put at risk when they are discovered by the humans residing there. Studio Ghibli offers a soothing animated version of the classic children's novels.

the basic elements of loneliness, friendship, and the fragility of life are intact, along with that ineffable sense of wonder, melancholy, and magic

By being less bizarre than SPIRITED AWAY and having more of a human center to the film, THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY is one of Studio Ghibli's best efforts to date.

A beautiful family film based on THE BORROWERS will delight audiences of all ages

Taking Resilience Too Far

Resilience has never been more important in the discussion of U.S. national security policy. It?s also never been more overrated. In people, resilience is that inner ability to recover from setbacks?being down but not out, bouncing back, carrying on. But in countries, it also means something more: Accepting that some bad outcomes are inevitable and building in capacity to absorb the blows. By definition, resilience focuses more on recovery than prevention. And in national security, that's a big deal.

Resilience is fast becoming a silent cornerstone of American policy. These days, our goals are less about stopping bad things from happening and more about limiting the effects when they do happen?whether it?s creating computer networks that can resume operation after a cyber attack, developing homeland security programs to accelerate recovery after a terrorist strike, or helping new democracies withstand violent insurgencies. This month, the Army rolled out a new training program to prepare for what it sees as the wave of the future: ?indecisive conflicts.? Soldiers are now practicing how to support a host government against a witches? brew of insurgents, drug traffickers, terrorist networks, and other bad guys. Indecisive conflicts are all about resilience. Victory is inherently elusive. Bouncing back and persevering are the best that we can do.

It was not always this way. During the Cold War, resilience mattered, but not nearly so much. Because the Soviet enemy was clear, its destructive capabilities were well known, and the specter of nuclear war hung in the balance, our goal was preventing conflict, not recovering from it. The Cold War was a very dangerous time, but predictably so. The primary threat was always the same: Mutual assured destruction left little to the imagination. Sure, there were some nasty surprises. Kennedy never imagined Khrushchev would dare deploy nuclear missiles in Cuba. But the looming danger of nuclear annihilation had a way of focusing the mind on preventing war in the short run and defeating the Soviets in the long run. Other than ensuring a second strike nuclear capability, resilience was not a major part of Cold War security thinking. You don?t worry about ?bouncing back? when you think a single coordinated attack could destroy everything.

Do you have a bird, a feline or a canine? Do you care for your family pet? If you are one who is just like so many people in the world who are very fond of their pets; then you are most likely searching for more information on how your pets will also be likeable by other people around you. You may also be looking for information on how you can better provide comfort and care for your beloved family pet.

To our lovable pets ? You can?t just help it to be fascinated and even touched by the pets around you. Every pet owner should always be truly concerned with regards to the well being and or care for their pets. Without saying much, it is compulsory for every pet owner to make sure that the pets are taken cared of very well. This is a huge responsibility shouldered upon those who are into pets.

On buying your pets ? If you are going to buy a pet, be sure that you really want one and that you are ready for the responsibility. You then have to gather information about the pet of your choice. Do your research. Pick the breed, the species, the color, and lots more. There are numerous choices to think of. Every bit of information will be very beneficial in the future. Like the saying goes; ?knowing is half the battle.? Make yourself knowledgeable on what your choice of pet eats, what their usual behavior is, if they can adapt to your current environment, etc.

Be careful in picking your pet. There are animals that are very difficult to take care of; and there are some which you can call low maintenance. You should probably also check your personality. This is sometimes an issue in picking the best pet for you. Your lifestyle will always be a factor on how you and your pet will live harmoniously together. Again, make your research. Read through books and ask questions to vets, trainers, friends, and family.

Picking a fish ? Do you love having a pet fish? This is very responsibility heavy. The fish will depend on you for almost everything. There are lots of good aquarium starter kits you can buy in stores. You should still however ask for recommendations from vets and friends who have their own aquarium system at home or at work. Plan ahead as well on how your aquarium will most likely be. Will it be a big one, will it be fresh water or saltwater? There are tons of choices as well here.

How about having a bird? ? Be very careful in buying a bird cage. Most of the time, people will just tend to buy the most generic bird cage out there. Though it is quite eye-pleasing to buy decorative bird cages, it is still best to check if the bird cage will be a good home and comfortable for your pet bird.

These are just some suggestions on how you should initially think in picking the pet you wish to own. We?ll discuss on a different article in a larger scale pet dogs and pet cats. For now, take good care of your pets.

I?m currently working for Aquarium Fish Store. I like writing different topics and is maintaining a personal blog which I would like to share to everyone someday.

D. A. Wolf: Will Separate Vacations Lead To Divorce?

Some of us may never fully understand why our marriages come to an end. We revisit the circumstances, trying to learn from our mistakes, and taking a stab at processing the usual possible reasons for divorce: growing apart, infidelity, physical or emotional abuse, and other scenarios that are harder to classify.

Sometimes, years pass before we have that lightbulb moment -- noting situations we neither predicted nor imagined -- something like separate vacations or separate activities which, taken to an extreme, may lead to separate lives.

I suppose when a spouse is spending half or more of their time away, we justify their absence any way we can, especially if careers are involved. But shouldn't we be worried? Isn't too much separateness a guarantee of marital breakdown -- or at the very least, symptomatic of serious problems?

Taking A Break From Marriage

An amusing article in Psychology Today offers advice when it comes to the benefits of time off from relationship -- explaining that we may earn "neutral disconnects" now and then.

It never occurred to me until I was divorced that my husband was regularly taking time off from marriage. But unlike the mentions in Psychology Today -- it was neither "earned" nor a reciprocal arrangement.

Now before you jump to conclusions, let me state that my husband traveled in his job, appending legitimate days off to business trips so he might visit friends. Occasionally that meant extra time for him to vacation in Europe, and he also enjoyed "buddy weekends" out of town to indulge in golf, guy talk, and no doubt some liquid refreshment.

Meanwhile, yours truly was stalwartly stationed on the domestic front. I was going to the office, caring for kids, and as the years wore on, I was increasingly cranky when Hubby was home.

I didn't find taking a break from marriage to be a bad thing per se. In fact, I had no problem with it for many years. But in retrospect I see it in another light: as one-sided, widening the gap in emotional connection, and seemingly the preferred relationship style for one party only -- my eventual ex.

Still, I take responsibility for not taking breaks of my own. We discussed it, agreed it made sense, but it never happened. Let's chalk it up to reluctance to leave little ones, and more so, to a desire to vacation as a couple or a family. Somehow, we never seemed to pull that off. I remember one exception the second year of marriage, and we also ventured overseas to see the in-laws -- certainly pleasant, but rarely restful.

Separate Vacations - Problem or Symptom?

In my experience, men give themselves breaks from marriage more readily than women. Also in my experience, women are more hesitant to take time off and when they do -- when we do -- we're guilty and worried about the consequences of our absence, especially if there are children at home.

As for my husband's time off, I was so determined never to nag or interfere with his freedom, I didn't protest. The result was separate vacations for him, and no vacations for me. Yet I have no one to blame but myself. I should have spoken up.

In hindsight, I see that our separateness extended into most activities and areas of our lives. Solo vacations were symptomatic of dramatically divergent values, goals, and expectations of marriage. I also recognize that during those years I was anything but fun to be around: I lost my sense of humor, I was stressed, and I was increasingly resentful of the disproportionate arrangement of responsibilities, which naturally made me less agreeable to be around. With a little time off of my own, I might have been a different sort of wife. With a little time off together, it may have been a different sort of life.

Dating After Divorce

It's been more than a decade since my divorce, and while dating has been intermittent, I have struggled to meet men I could enjoy and respect. And it's worth pointing out that I've had better luck with long-distance relationships. They aren't easy, but perhaps they've worked because of my specific post-divorce situation, which has included responsibility for two kids 95 percent of the time. Or, though I don't realize it, those pairings seemed comfortable because they resembled my marriage.

Long-distance dating and relationships are tricky. Then again, so are long-distance marriages or those in which a husband or wife travels extensively. I wonder how military spouses survive their lengthy separations, and my hat is off to them for managing to do so.

As for dating after divorce, I've also made it a practice to take breaks from romantic socializing, some for as long as six or nine months. At times, those breaks were about the demands of parenting or earning a buck. And dating hasn't been a walk in the proverbial park; I was accustomed to a marriage in which I was -- of necessity -- extremely independent.

Too much relationship time together? I feel like I'm suffocating.

Too much relationship time apart? It's familiar, but triggers concerns.

Marital Expectations, Relationship Echoes

I wonder if we're bound to the echoes of our imperfect marriages, although hopefully we come to terms with what works for us and what doesn't.

At this stage in my life, I need togetherness as well as space, and I offer the same. I would categorize my preferred partnership proximity as "intimacy plus" -- myself as a whole entity, loving another who is equally whole. My ideal living arrangement would consist of two of us together because we want to be, not because we have to be.

That said, if we're truly a couple, my answer is no to separate vacations.

  • Whatever your relationship status, can planned time off alone be just what the doctor ordered?

Put a little Ice Cream Sandwich in your computer with Roboto fonts

Roboto

We're all frustrated at the wait for Ice Cream Sandwich on our phones and tablets, but maybe a little Roboto on your computer can help fill that void. The Android design team has popped out some official Roboto fonts that can be installed on just about any device that can display True Type fonts, and they look great on your desktop or laptop. Getting them is easy, just download them from the Android Design page, and install according to your OS specifications.

They'll give you a fresh, clean look that's easy to read and scales great. The best part is that they're absolutely free for use and "without restriction" for use in applications, so developers can use them in things like Web apps and desktop widgets. Sure beats the Comic Sans look. See the source link for downloads and the specimen book.

Far infrared therapy provides two factors that are essential for good health: cellular detoxification and good circulation. The health of the whole system depends on the movement of blood and energy throughout. Detoxification and good circulation result in adequate exchange of nutrients into cells, reduced inflammation, loss of excess weight. Far infrared ray energy, also known as radiant heat, is a part of the natural light spectrum of sunlight, minus the skin damaging ultraviolet rays, which is why NASA spacecraft has utilized this heat. Far-Infrared rays are rays that promote bioprocesses such as increased metabolism and blood circulation, and can raise core body temperature. Far-infrared can penetrate up to 1-.5 inches, exciting the vibrational energy of molecules and resonating with cellular frequencies. However, the body is unable to perceive the deep heating effects of FIR because its ability to sense heat is mainly at the skin level. The SAUNA WRAP offers close range FIR with temperature control over the whole body, ideal and effective modern hi-tech system generally used in beauty saloons, weight loss centers and 100% safe to use at home. Over 2000 years ago, the famous Greek physician Parmenides stated ?give me a chance to create fever, and I will cure any disease?. This traditional wisdom has certainly stood the test of time. A typical infrared sauna session causes a brief 1-3 degree increase in body temperature. Fever is the body?s defense against bacteria, microbes and consequent infection. This beneficial side effect triggers the production of white blood cells (leukocytes) by your bone marrow and killer T cells by your thymus, resulting in strengthening the immune system. Due to the healing power of heat, Far-Infrared provides a safe natural form of detoxification [reducing toxic body burdens of heavy metals, nonmetallic toxins, volatile hydrocarbons, solvent residues, PCB's, pesticides, herbicide residues and other synthetic chemicals], which is critical for reversing health disorders and re-establishing good health. Studies now confirm that diet and environmental chemicals cause 95% of cancers. Furthermore, we have learned that stored toxic chemicals can mimic any disease. How can far infrared sauna therapy make a tremendous impact on cellular detoxification of heavy metals and toxic chemicals? A FIR Sauna can address those who in today?s society are exposed to heavy metals and toxic chemicals. That means everyone! There are more than 77,000 chemicals in use in the USA with more than 3,000 chemicals being added to our food supply, not to mention what is already found digested in our meat sources. Over 10,000 chemicals are in the form of solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives are used in food processing, packaging, wrapping, and storage. A USA Today article has indicated that the average city water contains more than 500 chemicals. Hundreds of chemicals also affect our skin from lotions, soaps, creams and deodorants. Cleaning solvents, detergent residues and chemicals from bathing water also are absorbed. Toxins such as sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol and carcinogenic heavy metals (cadmium, lead, zinc, nickel) accumulate in the body during modern daily life. A few of these materials are used in dentistry today, and many people are unaware of its negative effects on their health and often the medical society overlooks the possibility of teeth to be a source of medical focus. Styrene residue had been found in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studies in 100% of human fat biopsies that were acquired. According to the EPA, our bodies accumulate 210 mcg of just plasticizers (phthalates) everyday. Other studies have demonstrated that most of us have between 400 and 800 chemical residues stored in the fat cells of our bodies. Most of these potentially harmful chemicals become stored within our fat cells and cannot be metabolized (excreted). This is especially so for those with slow metabolism. Although the skin is a major eliminative organ, most people?s skin is very inactive. Many people do not sweat possibly due to synthetic or tight clothing which do not breathe. Sedentary living and sun damage also inactivate the skin. As these chemicals build up, they alter our metabolism, cause enzyme dysfunction and nutritional deficiencies, create hormonal imbalances, damage brain chemistry, and cause cancer. As the chemicals accumulate in different parts of the body and at different rates and in different combinations, there is a disturbingly large variety of different chronic illnesses which can result. Studies now confirm that diet and environmental chemicals cause 95% of cancers. Undetoxified chemicals can mimic any disease and chronic diseases that were thought to have no known cause often disappear once toxic chemicals are gone. The Far-Infrared Sauna is among the safest, most efficacious, economical way of depurating stored toxins. Researchers have discovered that the use of the Far Infrared spectrum sauna was most effective in the removal of a vast amount of toxins via the skin, thereby bypassing the kidney and oftentimes the use of oral or intravenous chelating agents. The Far Infrared sauna is far safer and more tolerable than a conventional sauna because the Far Infrared energy is just below the microwave spectrum. To confirm this concept, place the palms of your hands a few inches apart. The radiant heat which you feel is the far infrared energy generated by the body. ?Touch Therapy? healers have used this energy for centuries, and it is often included in many yoga positions for self-healing purposes. Heating the body helps destroy bacteria, viruses and tumors. Saunas work largely by promoting detoxification through the sweat. Sweating promotes elimination of toxic chemicals, heavy metals [Aluminum, Antimony, Arsenic, Barium, Bismuth, Cadmium, Lead, Mercury, Nickel, Thallium, Tin, Uranium], radiation and other toxins. The skin?s ability to eliminate poisons increases. One study found that the sweat formed in conventional saunas is 95 to 97 percent water. In infra-red saunas, only 80 to 85 percent of the sweat is composed of water; the remaining 15 to 20 percent consists of cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid. Saunas offer many of the benefits of exercise while requiring much less exertion. Saunas also stimulate cells to release toxins, which can then be eliminated by the liver and bowel. Note: Many people with heavy metal, chemical or pesticide toxicity levels may find it difficult to sweat initially; for some individuals it may require 5-10 sessions before measurable sweat volume is evident, but continuous water intake will enhance detoxification. Even without measurable sweat, the infrared sauna is helping to eliminate toxins through urine, bowels and hair. How does FIR facilitate weight loss? What about cellulite loss? The Far Infrared Sauna not only purifies fat cells, but it burns calories (up to 500 calories in one full session has been calculated to burn as many calories as a six mile run (and have the same beneficial cardiovascular effects) and controls weight. The Utilizations of Far Infrared Ray (FIR) has been testified to be one of the most effective and scientific methods for weight-loss or body re-shaping. All the life-forms on earth naturally have activation of cells and flourishing metabolism with the radiation of FIR. FIR radiation penetrates under skin, muscle and bone, resulting in heat moxibustion, which speeds up blood circulation, cell activating and metabolizing of cells. When the activity frequency between molecules and atoms from cells becomes unanimous with FIR frequency, the energy will be rapidly absorbed by organism cells, resulting in resonance and fiercer molecule oscillation. Thus, catabolism is enhanced and unwanted fat is decomposed accordingly. Far Infrared Ray (FIR) even improves and clears cellulite. Cellulite is a gel-like substance made up of fat, water and wastes which are trapped in pockets below the skin. Profuse sweating, induced by the infrared sauna, can assist in eliminating this unwanted debris from the body. In Asia and Europe FIR has already revolutionized health and beauty products. Infrared energy is not only safe, but also highly beneficial for our bodies. European Beauty Specialists confirm that a sauna will greatly speed any anti-cellulite program. Due to at least twice the depth of heat penetration into cellulite combined with up to 10 times the level of heating in these tissues your infrared sauna can be significantly more effective than any conventional sauna. How often should I have a sauna session, and how is it done? For optimal benefits, set your controls to maintain a sauna temperature that is comfortable for you. Please remember that infrared heat is simply radiant energy in the form of a band of light that radiates heat penetrating the skin to a depth of 1-? inches or more. This radiant heat is efficient because it warms the body internally, not the air. Setting higher temperatures may add to personal discomfort with very little therapeutic value. For optimal results, refrain from using the sauna on a full stomach. It is also important to remain hydrated. For best results drink water prior, during and after your sauna session. Do not apply excess body lotion to your body prior to a sauna session. Start off with 20-minute sessions, but as your body becomes more heat-conditioned, you may want to increase your sauna session to 45 minutes or longer. Saunas are normally taken two to five times per week, depending on the individual?s condition and personal schedule. Far Infrared Saunas heats the body while the air remains cool. Sweating begins quickly and the experience is rather pleasant. The SAUNA Suit has safe waterproof soft material with flexible tensile capabilities, even in various sleeping position. The Heating wire is design to withstand any stretches or bends.
